Message from the Program Head

Dear Students; First and Emergency Aid Technicians (Paramedics) are health professionals who ensure that emergency care is delivered at a professional level outside the hospital. This care begins with the emergency incident, continues during transport, and ends once the patient is transferred to a place with medical facilities. Paramedics are health professionals who have received special training for pre-hospital care.
Paramedics, who began serving in the Ministry of Health’s 112 Ambulance Service in 2004, have carried out their duties successfully and, as a result, have become an indispensable element of the emergency health system. The role of paramedics is extremely important in providing emergency medical assistance to people, rescuing individuals from the difficulties they are in, and, at times, in the successful developments seen in recent years in pre-hospital care services planned for saving lives
A new era began in our country in 2004 when paramedics started working in 112 ambulances. Their roles and responsibilities have been determined by regulations. The Emergency Health Services Regulation was published in 2007, and the Communiqué on the Working Procedures and Principles of Ambulance and Emergency Care Technicians and Emergency Medical Technicians was published in the Official Gazette in 2009; in this communiqué, the roles and responsibilities of paramedics were defined.
Graduates work in public and private health institutions and organizations with the title of “Paramedic.” They serve in the units providing emergency health services in health institutions in particular, as well as in other institutions and organizations. Their areas of employment include the Emergency Departments of public and private inpatient/outpatient health institutions and organizations affiliated with the Ministry of Health, 112 Emergency Stations, 112 Command and Control Centers, Private Ambulance Services, and similar units.
The First and Emergency Aid Program within the Vocational School of our University began admitting students in 2014-2015, and its education and teaching activities continue to grow stronger. The duration of study in the program is two (2) years. At the end of the first year, each student completes a summer internship of 30 working days in the relevant clinics and 112 Ambulances. To graduate from the program, students must succeed in the courses and practices in the first and emergency care associate degree program as well as the summer internship, and complete a total of 120 ECTS. We are waiting for you, our dear young people, to join the paramedic profession as an indispensable team member of the emergency health system. I wish you healthy, happy and successful days. With my love.
